This series emerges from the observation of Parisian people in their metropolitan environment:
the way they meet by chance, they interact, or just stay in their own bubble,
truly fascinated me during the three years spent in the French capital.
Under the surface of what appears like just a common daily life scene, lays a way more profound reality:
every human is a unique condensed emotional entity, traveling in the flow of life as fast as the tube in the heart of Paris.
I used to investigate very quickly people’s physiognomy to connect with their emotional charge,
take this impression of lines and colors to the studio and paint it straight away in oil on cotton,
linen, jute and any other raw fabrics that would have the “coming from the street” feel.
Due to the fact that the encounters with my subjects were very brief, their faces resulted into stylized medieval icons,
carrying just the sharp basic traits of their identities.
Their volumes and shapes, though, integrate harmoniously in the space, emanating a sense of oneness.
The strong color contrasts recall the Expressionist style:
every emotion emanates a specific color and, viceversa, every color produces an emotion.
In this perspective, I invite the viewers to connect with the subjects,
tune into their emotional world and observe how colors affect their own perception, beyond aesthetics.
