This series was born in South America,
where I had the chance to study Brazilian shamanic practices and Inca cosmology.
Inca people used to live in complete harmony with Nature.
They considered the Earth their Mother and called it Pachamama.
In their vision, mountains, rocks and trees were, beyond their physical manifestation,
alive and self conscious spiritual entities.
In this vision, humans and nature were perceived as very much alike and part of the same holistic universe.
In Brazil the word encontro means meeting, finding something.
Therefore re²-encontro indicates a double meeting:
through rediscovering Mother Earth and recognizing that all matter is alive and governed by harmony,
we can re-meet ourselves and integrate our inner and outer worlds,
remembering that they mirror each other.
To suggest this continuum, I painted profiles – humans and elementary spirits –
that emerge from rocks, water, sky and clouds, nebuloses of stars:
an everchanging and perpetual cycle of fluid shapes, elements and colors.
In these artworks Mother Earth’s infinite creative power can be seen as a strong light
that emanates from the darkness and expresses itself into vivid colors,
inviting the viewer “To Be One” with her.
